„Catchphrases of common speech” in interpretation of Russian audiovisual texts

Abstract

The objective of the article is the discussion of interpreting into Polish common, repeatable and stereotypical communicative structures in Russian; these structures are also termed catchphrases of common speech. The above issue was analysed on the basis of audiovisual material with a view to the complementary nature of the visual subcode. A special focus was placed on phonic and intonation aspects as well as on the process of cultural transfer. The author also presented theoretical and potential possibilities of interpreting the so called catchphrases; this approach was used as the basis for illustrating the aforementioned phenomenon on specific examples of films in the subsequent sections of the article.
