Eliminating emersion. Aesthetic strategies of creation of graphical user interfaces in videogames

This article presents the most important aesthetic strategies used in the process of creation of graphical user interfaces in videogames. The author discerns such strategies as minimalization, stylization, usage of metainterfaces, configurablity and thematization. Using these strategies allows designers not only to reduce the emersive influence of GUI’s, but also to enhance game’s visual identity and recognisability.
