On the Fifth Anniversary of Ratification of 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage by Poland

The UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage from 2003 was ratified by Poland in 2011. Since then numerous activities have been undertaken to popularise the knowledge of the Convention, its objectives and opportunities of promoting knowledge referring to cultural heritage. In Poland, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the National Heritage Institute are engaged in implementing its postulates. Members of non-governmental organizations, including members of the Polish Ethnological Society, actively participate in these activities. The article discusses circumstances accompanying the introduction of the Convention in Poland and characterizes main activities for its popularisation.
