BODY WORK: PRACTICES, IMAGINARIES, AFFECTIVE DIMENSIONS
We invite authors to contribute to a special issue of “Łódź Ethnographic Studies” dedicated to contemporary trends and practices aimed at transforming, modifying and beautifying the body, as well as the discourses surrounding these practices.
As we plan this issue of LSE, we seek to highlight the multiple connections between socially constructed bodily idea(l)s, the economy of beauty, and mobility in the broadest sense. In doing so, the issue aims to reignite and continue discussions about body work understood as work that individuals perform on their bodies and work performed onto their bodies by others, encompassing the physical and emotional aspects of work performed on other bodies. We encourage authors to focus on both the global circulation of patterns concerning corporeality and their local manifestations, transformations, interpretations.
The volume’s thematic editor: prof. dr hab. Anna Wieczorkiewicz (University of Warsaw), dr Ruxandra Ana (University of Lodz).
The deadline for submissions is 31 December 2025.

The volume to be published in 2025, entitled BIOGRAPHY WRITING IN ANTHROPOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE, will be devoted to biography writing in anthropological perspective. We offer the pages of our journal for a discussion of the concepts, methods and problems accompanying the practice of biography writing and for a reflection on the need for biographical research. The need for this type of research (including the analysis of the achievements of the representatives of the discipline) emerges as a key element in tracing the history of anthropological thought. However, the cognitive aspect is not the only reason why the profiles and achievements of researchers and theorists ought to be popularised; biographies also have the power to shape and strengthen the environmental identity of a particular group of scholars.
The volume’s thematic editor: dr Katarzyna Ceklarz (Polish Folk Society / Academy of Applied Sciences in Nowy Targ).
The deadline for submissions is 31 December 2024.

We invite you to read the LIX volume of "Łódzkie Studia Etnograficzne". This time our main topic is ETHNOGRAPHY ANIMATION EDUCATION.
Thematic editors are Anna Weronika Brzezińska and Katarzyna Majbroda.
In the next volume of “Łódzkie Studia Etnograficzne“, we will focus on a MAP as a cognitive/research tool, a text, a source of knowledge, and one of ‘intellectual technologies’ (Nicholas Carr), thanks to which we look for information and classify it, formulating and expressing ideas, but also as a metaphor or even – as Judith Schalansky put it – a literary genre.
We would like to encourage multidimensional and transdisciplinary perception of cartography, which also concerns a MAP with its form, function, status, and possibilities. Today, a MAP – as Elżbieta Rybicka noted – is one of key epistemological and ontological metaphors in philosophical, postcolonial, historical, and literary discourses. As a travelling concept, it is present in the reflection and methodology of geography, history, art history, psychology, and sociology.
Most of all, however, we are interested in the opinions of ethnographers, ethnologists and cultural anthropologists.
Submission deadline is 31 December 2020.
