The article attempts to present one of Andrzej Wierzbicki’s recent publications, Poczet historyków polskich. Historiografia polska doby podzaborowej [A Catalogue of Polish Historians. Polish Historiography of the Partition Era] (2014). It presents the main theses (problem axis) and the construction of the book, its concepts and its author’s guiding ideas. In the foreground are Wierzbicki’s criteria for selecting described figures and, related to it, his definition of ‘eminence’ in historical science. The researchers he presented make an important reference point on the map of Polish historiography. They played the role of media through which one could observe the panorama of phenomena occurring in Polish science in the post-partition era.
