Background: Total hip replacement is one of the most frequently used surgical techniques in the treatment of degenerative joint diseases. The surgical procedure aims to improve patients' quality of life and overall health status (well-being) in the coming years. Pain reduction or its complete elimination promotes better functioning in daily life, which positively affects the psychological well-being of patients.
Aim: Assessment of patient satisfaction in a rheumatology hospital following total hip arthroplasty.
Material and methods: The study was conducted among 116 patients following hip replacement surgery at the Department of Trauma and Orthopedic Surgery in the Gen. Jerzy Ziętek Silesian Rheumatology Center in Ustroń. The study period spanned four months, from August 2024 to November 2024. A self-designed questionnaire consisting of 30 questions, including both closed-ended and open-ended items, was used for data collection.
Results: The quality of life of patients significantly improved following hip replacement surgery, as did their health status (well-being) compared to the preoperative period. The study results indicate that respondents reported a significant reduction in pain, which was confirmed using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Following the procedure, perceived pain decreased by 5 points, enabling a return to performing basic daily activities without pain. Initiating rehabilitation on the first postoperative day contributed to the rapid recovery of physical mobility and the improvement of respondents' psychological status.
Conclusions: Patients following hip arthroplasty experienced a significant reduction in pain, which contributed to an improvement in their quality of life across physical, psychological, and social dimensions. High patient satisfaction was the result of the efficacy of the procedure, the quality of medical care, and early postoperative rehabilitation, which positively influenced the recovery process.
