Abstract

In the article presented  the Author describes a long way neurosurgery has come from ancient craniotomy performed with stone tools to high – precision microsurgery and robotics, combining advances of different clinical and theoretical sciences. The invaluable contribution of W. Horsley, N. I. Pirogov, Harvey Cushing, V. M. Bekhterev and other prominent surgeons and scientists is discussed.
