Introduction. Nurses are a dynamically developing professional group. A responsible position, with the ability to make many independent decisions, sometimes in unfavourable conditions. Continuous improvement of own competences caused by raising the standard of patient care. The intensity of the burden of meeting the expectations of the patient and his family is one of many stressors. The profession of a nurse is all about constant contact with emotions. They affect the level of professional satisfaction and the sense of fulfilment of the duties entrusted to them. At the same time, they contribute to burnout.
Objective of the Thesis. The objective of this thesis is to analyze the level of job satisfaction among nursing staff in conservative and surgical departments.
Materials and Methods. The respondents were nurses from conservative (internal medicine, rehabilitation, and pediatrics) and surgical departments (surgery, obstetrics, and gynecology).
Results. The study examined job satisfaction among 100 nurses working in conservative departments (internal medicine, rehabilitation, and pediatrics) and surgical departments (surgery, obstetrics, and gynecology). The data obtained indicate that women over the age of 46 report higher satisfaction with their professional duties. Length of service has a comparable impact on job satisfaction as the professional role performed. The dimensions of safety, social, and psychological well-being as measured by the MMSS (McCloskey/Mueller Satisfaction Scale) showed no significant influence in relation to gender, place of residence, type of hospital ward, type of employment contract, education level, or professional qualifications. An exception was observed in the age group between 31 and 45 years, which demonstrated the highest correlation within the social dimension compared to other groups.
Conclusions: Based on the conducted study, the following conclusions can be drawn:
The level of job satisfaction among nursing staff from both conservative and surgical departments in the examined group is diverse. Survey results indicate that women with 16 to 25 years of professional experience and who have completed second-cycle (Master’s) studies along with a specialization report higher levels of job satisfaction. The type of department does not significantly affect the level of satisfaction.
