Introduction. Burnout syndrome primarily affects professions defined as social services. This group includes nurses, whose work involves providing assistance to others and maintaining close contact with them. This also involves confronting negative, demanding emotions from patients and their families. Combined with relatively low remuneration for such responsible and demanding work, this can lead to frustration and long-term stress. It is then difficult to feel satisfied with one’s work, as the increasing challenges lead to increasing fatigue and emotional exhaustion. Consequently, discouragement, increased tension, dissatisfaction, and a lack of motivation to work occur.
Aim. The aim of the study was to assess the factors influencing the occurrence of burnout among nurses in a pediatric ward, taking into account job satisfaction.
Material and methods. The basic research tool of this study was the Burnout Inventory (MBI) which is designed to diagnose the risk of burnout. A self-authored survey metric was also used.
Results. The analysis of the research results showed that the risk of burnout among pediatric nurses is low.
Conclusions. In the study group, the average risk of burnout is medium. It was also established that the work system and the function performed have a significant impact on the phenomenon of burnout. The remaining variables do not affect the occurrence of the risk of burnout. The level of emotional exhaustion is moderate, but a significant number of nurses feel tired and overloaded with work. Depersonalization is at a low level.
