About the Journal
Focus and Scope
The key objective of the quarterly "Historia i Polityka" (History and Politics) is to present the latest, original achievements of Polish and foreign scientists. Articles published in the magazine range from research reports to purely theoretical dissertations. These papers are an important voice in the discussion of representatives of the humanities and social sciences focused on the problems of history and politics in the 20th and 21st centuries. The journal publishes studies mainly in the field of political science, including: history of political thought, diplomacy, contemporary international relations and security studies.
The mission of the Editors of the periodical "Historia i Polityka" (History and Politics) is to promote research conducted by young, talented scholars and to establish and grow a circle of frequent collaborators from various (also foreign) academic centers, regularly writing for the magazine.
An equally important goal of the magazine is to develop and nurture collaborative relations with scientists from Eastern European countries: the Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary. Publications by foreign authors in HiP offer an opportunity for broader scientific discourse and exchange of views. All these countries and Poland share a common history and culture. We are also connected by unique - on a global scale - experiences of the CEE societies, which can serve as an important point of reference in research in politics, international relations and security.
"Historia i Polityka" (History and Politics) is a forum open to Polish and international researchers. We encourage authors to submit papers dedicated to innovative approaches and interdisciplinary research in political and historical processes.
Content of the magazine is made freely available on Open Access basis, which is one of the foundations of Open Science. It allows for free use of the published content, thus supporting the development of science and innovation.
All texts in "Historia i Polityka" (History and Politics) have a DOI digital ID.

Peer Review Process
The editors of HiP oppose any manifestations of scientific misconduct! The editorial staff of the quarterly have introduced and consistently apply special procedures to prevent ghostwriting and guest authorship practices and to detect, prevent and inform about plagiarism! The content of the journal is checked by the plagiarism screening software CrossCheck.
Formal aspects of the peer review process for papers submitted:
• By submitting a text for publication the author expresses their agreement to it being peer reviewed.
• Texts are subjected to an internal formal and substantive preliminary qualification by thematic editors.
• Reviews, discussions, sources and surveys are reviewed by members of the editorial staff.
• Texts are reviewed anonymously using the “double-blind review” method, i.e. the reviewers do not know who the author is and the authors do not know who reviews their work.
• A review is made by two external experts (i.e. ones from a different scientific unit than the one of the author of the paper), whose minimum qualification is a doctorate degree.
• There can be no conflict of interest between the reviewers and the authors: consanguinity to the second degree, a marital relationship, a professional relationship or scientific cooperation in the last two years between the author and reviewer candidate disqualify the latter from serving as reviewer for the author in question.
• Reviewers must not use their knowledge of the manuscript prior to its publication in any manner.
• The review must contain a clear statement regarding the terms of acceptance of a given work for publication or grounds for its rejection and the author is always informed about the results of the review - review form.
• Authors shall corrects their papers according to the reviewer’s recommendations.
• Once the author has made the suggested corrections, the reviewer then reevaluates the text.
Formal reasons for rejection of an article:
• It has been demonstrated that the text contains too many borrowings.
• The text is not original or the paper (or large sections of it) has already been published in another journal.
• The author based the work on literature and sources that are not up to date and ignores latest developments in the given field of science.
• Methodological errors in the text.
• Unambiguous statement by both peer reviewers that they do not agree to the publication of the text.
• Failure to take into account all comments of the reviewers and editors regarding the final contents of the article.
Formal requirements that need to be met before publication:
• Clear agreement of reviewers to publish the text.
• All the reviewers’ and editors’ comments regarding the contents of the article have been addressed.
• The article is formatted in accordance with the relevant requirements.
Open Access Policy
The journal offers access to its content in the Open Access system under the Creative Commons non-exclusive license (CC BY-ND 3.0). Journal History
"Historia i Polityka" (History and Politics)
was founded in 2005 and was initially intended as a short-run series of volumes. After a positive reception by both the readers and the scientific community, in 2009 the editors decided to transform it into a regularly published magazine. In the period 2009-2015, "Historia i Polityka" (History and Politics) was appearing semi-annually. In 2014, the first issue of the magazine was published in English, with the intent to reach an even larger audience. Currently (from 2016) HiP is a quarterly journal edited at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun. Each year, two issues are published in Polish and further two in English. Representatives of over a dozen academic centers from Poland and around the world collaborate in preparation of each issue.
In 2010 HiP has been placed on the Polish ministerial list of ranked journals. Currently, the quarterly can be found on the List of Scientific Periodicals of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. This means that 140 points are awarded to authors for a publication in our magazine.
