Caffeine as a key ingredient in dietary supplements for athletes

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in a healthy lifestyle and an attractive physique, which is associated with an increased use of dietary supplements that support the achievement of these goals. Dietary supplements are used to complement the daily diet and provide the body with essential nutrients, particularly in the context of the intense lifestyle of athletes. According to the classification of the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), dietary supplements are divided into four groups: recommended, to be considered, harmful, and prohibited. The dietary supplement industry is rapidly growing, offering a wide range of products, including those containing caffeine, which have various properties depending on the intensity of exercise and individual responses of the body. Caffeine is one of the most commonly used ingredients that enhances physical performance, improves concentration, and delays fatigue. Caeine is also used in the weight loss process, supporting metabolism and fat burning. However, excessive caeine intake can lead to health problems such as sleep disorders or anxiety. Studies on the caffeine content in supplements indicate that there may be differences in its amount between products, even if it is not stated on the label. These values vary depending on the ingredients, highlighting the need for more accurate labeling of caffeine content on packaging so that consumers can consciously control their intake.
