Motivation: Contemporary economies face overlapping crises—climate, social, and commodity—that challenge the adequacy of traditional development models. There is a need to critically assess whether new concepts represent a genuine paradigm shift or merely adapt existing frameworks.
Aim: This article analyses the evolution of economic development models amid global systemic transformation, emphasizing the green economy as a tool to achieve the overarching paradigm of sustainable development.
Results: The study identifies key drivers and challenges in transitioning from a green economy to sustainable development. It underscores the importance of a holistic approach, integrating economic, social, and environmental aspects, and provides a theoretical and empirical basis for further research and practical recommendations for policymakers and practitioners.
