The article discusses the work Shqipëria në Traktatin e Varshavës: Mite dhe të Vërteta (1955–1968) [Albania in the Warsaw Pact: Myths and Truth (1955–1968)], authored by Etleva Smaçi, which examines Albania’s political and military relations with the Warsaw Pact, particularly focusing on the Soviet naval base in Vlora as a significant element of Albanian-Soviet cooperation and subsequent conflict. The book provides substantial scholarly value through its detailed examination of the Vlora naval base and contributes to an under-explored area of Albanian historiography. Although Smaçi’s research offers valuable insights, its reliance primarily on Albanian archival sources and its limited broader contextualisation somewhat restricts its scope. Overall, the work achieves a noteworthy balance between depth of research and identification of areas for further study.
