The article critically analyses the latest popular science synthesis of Ukrainian history written by Yaroslav Hrytsak from a perspective of universal history. The advantages of the work are its light style and unconventional interpretations of Ukrainian history, while the disadvantages are its many technical shortcomings, including the methodological incoherence of the author’s arguments and numerous factual errors and interpretations of the history of Polish-Ukrainian relations, which are primarily duplicated from Ukrainian nationalist historians or Soviet clichés.
