This article examines what, according to Thomas Aquinas, is the basis of the form of the sacraments of the "lex nova" in the New Testament text. Two theses are proposed. First, according to Thomas, in the form of the sacraments words of Jesus are transmitted to us which are not contained in Scripture. Secondly, these words of Jesus transmitted in the form of the sacraments have a quality that is lacking in those transmitted in the New Testament text.
