Abstract

Das Buch Jona wird als Teil des Zwolf – Propheten – Buches uberliefert, obwohl es sich von den anderen prophetischen Buchern grundlegend unterscheidet. Zunachst ist es nicht eine Sammlung von Prophetenspruchen. Es ist durchgangig eine Erzahlung. Eine Besonderheit des Buches liegt darin, dass es zur Ganze unter Heiden, also Nicht-Israeliten spielt. Die Umkehr der Sunder und die Umkehr Gottes sind die Leitworte des ganzen Buches (Jon 1,9; 3,8–10). Das Werk will als theologische Lehrerzahlung darauf aufmerksam machen, dass der Gott Israels als der Schopfergott ein Gott der Gnade ist (Jon 4,2). Er will – anders als sein Prophet Jona – die Sunder zur Umkehr bewegen und wird dann als Gott der grenzenlose Liebe zur ganzen Schopfung sich der angedrohten Strafe gereuen lassen.
