This article was written to demonstrate the relationship that exists between "spirit" and "alcohol" in the Bible. The term “spirit" means very often the Spirit of God or the Holy Spirit. The term “alcohol”, although it is not found in the Bible, has got specific counterparts of which the most important is “wine”. The relationship "spirit – alcohol" – appears in the indirect and direct forms, both in the Old and New Testaments – a total of 12 times. The discussed dependence exists in the episodes which come from various historical and cultural layers as well as various literature types. It appears in negative or positive forms. Although in the Bible wine is a positive symbol of joy, in the case of drunkenness and addiction turns into a negative factor, closing to the Spirit of God which is necessary for the fulfillment of God's calling. On the positive side the nazirite vow involving abstinence, is connected with having the Spirit of God that enables men to realize the great works commissioned by God.
