The Letter to the Romans in the Reception of Tertulian

The aim of this paper is to present the reception of St. Paul’s Letter to the Romans in Africa proconsularis at the turn of the second and the third century on the example of Quintus Septimius Florens Tertullianus. In the first part the figure of Tertullian and the milieu of the Roman Africa at that time and the presence of the Apostle Paul’s writings in Africa is shown, in the second part the use of the Letter to the Romans by Tertullian in the anti-Marcionite controversy is presented, and in the third part – the presence of the Letter in his other works. The analyzes show the extensive use of St. Paul ‘s Letter to the Romans and the ideas contained in it by Tertullian.
