Der Artikel zeigt in zwei Teile n die besondere Wirkung des He iligen Ge iste s. Im ersten Abschni tt (Apg 8,5 -24) die Gei stesmittei lung durch die Apostel macht auf Simon gewalt igen Eindruck, offenbart aber zugle ich das wahre Motiv für sein Gläubigwe rden . Er hat sic h von Philippus nur taufen lassen, wei l er in ihm einen machtvollen Wundertäter sah, aber das ei gen tlic he We We sen der christlic hen Rel igion ist ihm fremd geblieben. Und so sieht er auch in den Apostel n nur ihm überlegene Wundertäter und wi ll derer höhere Kräfte, die er sic h als Zauberkräfte denkt, um Gel d für sich gewinnen. Die Macht der Apostel ist aber keinekäuflic he Zauberkraft, sondern eine freie Gabe Gottes, die man nic ht mit Geld erwe rben kann . Im zwei ten Abschni tt (Apg 14,8-18) der Glaube der Bew ohne r von Lystra, dass Paulus und Barnabas Götter in Men schen gestalt sin d, ist so fest, dass die Prieste r des vor der St adt befindlichen Zeuste mpel s sich anschicken, den bei den vermein tlic hen Götter zu opfern. Die Worte, die Apostel an die Men ge richte n, sind deshalb besonders wichtig, weil sie erkennen lassen, wie Paulus zu hei dni schen Zuhörern gesprochen hat. Ihnen musste er zuerst die große Wahrhei t von dem einen wahren Gott, dem Schöpfer und lie bevollen Vater aller Men schen, verkünden. Und auf diese Wahrheit weisen die beiden Apostel auch bei dieser Gele genheit mit Nachdruck hin.
