The Acts of the Apostles in light of the ancient historiography

Thearticleaims to examinetheBook of Acts intheframework of ancient historiography. Theauthor finds many affinities between Acts and theGreek and Roman way of narrating history. Themostobvious are: a prologuein which theauthor states thatthefollowing narration is going to bean accountof words and deeds;critical elaborationof writtenand oral sources;rooting ina real geographical and historical context;carefor truth and objectivity innarrating events;theological orientationinaccordancewith Herodotus’s model. Yet,thefinalconclusion is thattheBook of Acts does nothaveany strictparallelin antiquity and is to beseen as an originalproductof early Christian historiography.
