The article explores the role and significance of almsgiving in the first book of the Opus Lucanum, i.e. the Gospel of Luke. The Acts of the Apostles are more affluent in the relevant vocabulary, because the Greek word eleēmosynē appears 8 times (Acts 3:2.3.10; 9:36; 10:2.4.31; 24:17), while in the Gospel o Luke – only twice (Luke 11:41 and 12:33). The literary and exegetical analysis of both relevant pericopes in the Third Gospel – in Sayings against the Pharisees and the Lawyers (Luke 11:37-54) and on Treasure in Heaven (Luke 12:32-34) – allows us to give the conclusions of a specific kind. In the teaching of Jesus written in the Third Gospel almsgiving plays the role of not only a good deed required by the postulate of love for one's neighbor and the imperative of sharing with those in need. It turns out that it also has the power to cleanse the heart of the giver from sin and to earn for him the kingdom of the Father in heaven.
