In the Library of the Higher Seminary in Kielce there is preserved a fourpart Bible published together with postil of Nicholas of Lyra. In the margins of this incunable, Fr. Florian Pilthowski, as a local vicar and at the same time an officialis of Kielce who lived in the second half of the 16th century, made marginal notes testifying to many years of reading the Bible. The research conducted showed reading of most of the books of the Bible. Most often, Fr. F. Pilthowski made informative notes that allowed him to remember the content of the passage he was reading. In such a simple way, he commented on and confirmed the reading of most of the books of the Old Testament. Fr. F. Pilthowski also left notes testifying to a theologically deepened reading. These included a Christological treatment of Old Testament passages, the realization of prophecies in history, the themes of the final judgment and the coming of Christ, a Catholic understanding of the sacraments, the newness of the Christian life and the universality of salvation, and the priestly life. The preaching usefulness of the Bible reading was marked by him by giving the dates of holidays from the calendar when analyzing them. A comparison of the thematic threads developed through the analysis of Fr. F. Pilthowskli’s notes with the research of modern biblical scholars on the value of Nicholas of Lyra’s postil indicates that the post-Tridentine, Kielce-based commentator recognized most of the important achievements of the 13th-century exegete. Nicholas of Lyra’s postil, which was crucial in the formation of Martin Luther’s theology in Pilthowski’s reception was a source that confirmed Catholic doctrine.
