Abstract

Epitaphs of Popes in the Middle Ages in St. Peter's Basilica

Ottavio Bucarelli presents a very meticulous compilation of the funerary inscriptions of the Popes which were buried in the former medieval basilica of St. Peter in Rome from the 5th to the 12th centuries. He also compiles texts from objects that have been lost today, reconstructs the original burial situation and offers a detailed text analysis both in the introduction and in the catalog. The source texts can be accessed via extensive registers.
