Wyrażenie עֵדוּת לְיִשְׂרָאֵל z Ps 122,4 w starożytności było rozumiane zazwyczaj jako „świadectwo (dla) Izraela”. Obecnie intepretuje się je głównie jako „prawo dla Izraela”. Celem artykułu jest krytyczna analiza syntagmy עֵדוּת לְיִשְׂרָאֵל z perspektywą możliwości powrotu do rozumieniaעֵדוּת jako „świadectwa”.
Najpierw autor analizuje sytuację tekstualną w manuskryptach hebrajskich (1). Następnie przedstawia wersje antyczne (2) oraz tłumaczenia współczesne (3). W kolejnej części przedstawia stanowiska egzegetów (4), by przejść do zestawienia argumentów przemawiających za poszczególnymi propozycjami (5). W końcowym wniosku (6) autor sugeruje tłumaczenie wyrażenia עֵדוּת לְיִשְׂרָאֵל przez „[tam jest] świadectwo dla Izraela”.
