In the years 1945–1956, when there was an intensified political indoctrination, “the concept of man as a person with inherent, inviolable personal rights was lost, and political, legal and cultural forms of repression were created for him.” The living space was determined by the party-state authorities imposing “socialist morality” and “Stalinist discourse on the human being.” Those who did not yield to the totalitarian militarization of reality were considered enemies of the “people’s homeland.” The sovietization of the country caused patriotic resistance and underground activity. Opponents of the “new regime” were judged in the majesty of “people’s law” in accordance with the “formal court code.” Among this huge crowd of people sentenced by the Military District Courts were teenage girls and very young women accused of participating in conspiratorial independence organizations. They decided to support the underground resistance movement, despite the cynical acts of intimidation, torture, death sentences and long imprisonment by the communist regime. The source of their strength were Polish patriotic traditions based on the idea of a knight without fear and blemish, defenders of the fatherland, faithful to the motto: “God, honor, Fatherland.”
