Helping another person professionally requires not only knowledge and assistance tools but also the right skills to make contact or have conversation. One such skill, increasingly appreciated by those seeking help and support, is compassionate techniques. The presented text refers to the concept of compassion and suggests ways of defining it, the typology of compassion, and the benefits
of practising compassion by those who help professionally. The issue of compassion is discussed and characterized by the example of Paul Gilbert’s Compassion Focus Therapy, supplemented by content that seems relevant to the subject.
