Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement
Out of concern for the highest quality of the published scientific articles, the editorial team and the Scientific Council of the Archiwa – Kancelarie – Zbiory (Archives – Chanceries – Collections) journal, at all stages of work with scientific texts, care to observe intellectual property rights, the reliability of scientific research presented in the magazine and observe ethical standards established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). These standards set the final and indisputable rules that govern the process of reviewing and editing the submitted scientific texts. The editorial team and the Scientific Council of AKZ declare that their observance is not influenced by any relations with the business sphere.
Therefore, a list of rules and obligations has been set for the authors who submit scientific texts for publication in AKZ, reviewers, the editorial team of the journal and its Scientific Council.
A. Obligations of the authors
The author/authoress/authors of a scientific text submitted to AKZ is/are obliged to:
- declare that all data in the submitted scientific article are original and true,
- declare that the submitted scientific article is not currently under review in other scientific journals,
- disclose the full list of authors of the submitted scientific article and the contribution of each author/authors in the creation of the text,
- cooperate with the AKZ editorial team in the process of exchanging information concerning the reviewing and editing of the submitted scientific article,
- disclose information on the place of previous publication of the scientific article if it is a partial or full reprint,
- disclose the sources of funding the scientific research the results of which are presented in the submitted scientific article,
- obtain permission to publish other copyrighted elements of the scientific article (e.g. illustrations, photographs),
- submit information about any conflict of interest that may arise in the reviewing and editing process of the scientific articles sent.
A separate declaration of intention to publish a scientific article in Archiwa – Kancelarie – Zbiory (Archives – Chanceries – Collections) is not necessary. It is tantamount to submitting the statements mentioned in the first two paragraphs of the list above.
B. Obligations of the reviewers
Each reviewer of a scientific text submitted to AKZ is obliged to:
- review the submitted scientific article fairly and objectively, in compliance with ethical standards and refraining from any form of unscientific criticism,
- enhance the scientific value of the reviewed scientific article,
- refrain from preparing a review if the field of the reviewed scientific article does not fall within the reviewer’s scientific competence or if there is any conflict of interests between the author/authors and the reviewer,
- inform the editorial team if any breach of ethical standards is discovered in a peer-reviewed scientific article, including, in particular, plagiarism or/and autoplagiarism,
- respect the rules of confidentiality concerning all information connected with the reviewing process.
C. Obligations of the editorial team
The members of the AKZ editorial team undertake to:
- decide on the publication of each submitted scientific article solely on the basis of its scientific value, as the author’s origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender, citizenship and worldview are irrelevant to its publication in AKZ
- make objective decisions on whether to accept scientific articles for publication and communicate them to authors/authoresses together with a justification,
- communicate the reviewing rules for the submitted scientific articles on the journal’s website
- remain fully anonymous during the reviewing process and not disclose the content of the reviews to third parties,
- withdraw from the process of editing a scientific article if there is a conflict of interest with the author/authoress/authors,
- inform each author of any suggestions for changes to scientific texts, excluding editing and proofreading,
- inform, if they consider it necessary, the author’s superiors or the person who supervises their scientific research about the identified non-observance of ethical principles in scientific work.
D. Responsibilities of the members of the Scientific Council
The members of the AKZ Scientific Council are obliged to:
- support the editorial team in its decision to inform the author's superiors or the person who supervises their scientific research about the identified manifestations of scientific dishonesty,
- assist in contacting the superiors or research supervisors of unethical authors/authoress (especially in the case of foreigners),
- pass on to the AKZ editorial team all the obtained information concerning non-compliance with the ethical principles by persons who submit texts for the journal (especially in the case of foreigners).
