THE RAINBOW THAT BURST INTO FLAMES: ON THE POSTHUMOUS VOLUME BY ELIASZ RAJZMAN
The article discusses the biography and work of the somewhat-forgotten Polish Yiddish poet Eliasz Rajzman (1904–1975). Mech płonący (Burning Moss), a poetry collection published on the fortieth anniversary of the poet’s death, is a starting point for this analysis. The retrospective volume includes poems from various periods of Rajzman’s work, including new translations from Yiddish into Polish. In many of those lyrics, the poet undertakes the topic of the Holocaust—a tragedy of which his relatives were the victims.
