WOMEN JOURNALISTS OF THE INTERWAR POLISH-JEWISH PRESS: INTRODUCTORY REMARKS
The article is an attempt to present a synoptic overview of women journalists publishing in the interwar Jewish press issued in Polish. Several dozen names are mentioned, but four of them are introduced in more details: Paulina Appenszlak, Miriam Wolman-Sieraczkowa, Mira Jakubowicz and Thea Weinberg. Each journalist was assigned to a particular press title, although it is important to note that some of them tried to publish in various journals. The interbellum saw the appearance of the first professional women journalists, who used their writing as a weapon in the fight to improve their existence. The differences which influenced the lives of Jewish and Polish women, and other frequently raised topics were discussed. The article advocates thorough research on the lives as well as political activity of Jewish women journalists.
