W pracy omawia się Próbę stworzenia nowej teorii widzenia George’a Berkeleya w kontekście jego filozofii immaterialistycznej, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem dzieł powstałych około 1709 roku: nieprzeznaczonych do publikacji Dzienników filozoficznych i opublikowanego w 1710 roku Traktatu o zasadach poznania ludzkiego. Celem pracy jest, po pierwsze, pokazać, że co do tego, że Berkeley w 1709 roku był dojrzałym immaterialistą, nie może być wątpliwości, po drugie, że określony i problematyczny w interpretacji kształt Próby wynika w istocie z przyjętej strategii powolnego wprowadzania immaterializmu do świadomości odbiorców. Autor proponuje ujęcie, zgodnie z którym techniczne partie dotyczące postrzegania mają znaczenie podrzędne wobec projektu immaterialistycznego, zwalczenia sceptycyzmu i umocnienia wiary i zauważa, że wszystkie istotne dla filozofii głoszonej w 1710 roku instrumenty Berkeley wprowadził już w 1709 roku w Próbie. Na koniec w pracy omawia się koncepcję przedmiotu i problemu stałości poznania, który powstaje po usunięciu ze świata przedmiotów zewnętrznych.
