The current state of media education in Ukraine

Abstract

The development of scientific and technological advances today has led society to gradually enter a new era of development, in which the main values are information and knowledge. Global informatization, the rapid increase in the speed of information exchange and changes in the ways, forms and purposes of this exchange have led to the emergence of information inequality - the stratification of society along new lines: those who use the new information and communication realities for their own development, education and simplification of daily tasks, and those who are outside the global process and, due to their own ignorance, become objects of influence and manipulation.
The purpose of the article is to identify key aspects of the development of media education in Ukraine and its importance for a modern information society. The article analyzes the role of media education in the context of current challenges and opportunities it presents for the development of media literacy and critical thinking among citizens.
