Philosophy of St. Augustine, law, duties, the state of God, the earthly stateAbstract
The aim of the article is to show the timelessness and universality of the thoughts of Saint Augustine, who combined in his reflections elements of Greek philosophy with Roman law and Christian tradition in relation to social structures created by people. The presented article deals with the issue of the social dimension of the anthropological thought of Saint Augustine, already present in other studies. Starting from the human being as the subject of law creating the basic social unit which is the family, its tasks and interactions with other social subjects, creating society as a secular state - civitas terrana and the ecclesial community, that is the church as the state of God - civitas Dei. These three spheres of obligations of a person living in society, determine the structure of the article, which tries to present their specificity and non-transferability, as well as the rules of coexistence necessary for their functioning, and their mutual dependencies.
