Abstract

A woman from the beginning of the twenty-first century is someone completely different than a hundred years ago: she has different activities, ambitions, different social status and different demands are placed on her. Interpersonal relationships and moral reality are also different from those in which a woman was supposed to function a hundred years ago. The factors that played an important role and that determined the place of women in society, beyond gender, were age and social position. The applicable legal regulations, the way society perceived, the patterns of behavior used or the scope of personal freedom differed depending on whether the woman was married, widowed or maiden. In anthropological terms, it should be noted that each historical epoch has developed specific cultural patterns, but it was only the emergence of modern societies that resulted in significant qualitative changes.
