The Library Services Centre for People with Special Needs, a department of the Nicolaus Copernicus Public Provincial Library in Toruń, is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2024. It is the oldest specialised library in Poland, and its services are addressed to people with special needs, mainly people with disabilities and seniors. The aim of this article is to characterise the activities of the Library Services Centre for People with Special Needs OCCiN of the Nicolaus Copernicus Public Provincial Library in Toruń against the background of trends in contemporary librarianship. These include the coherence of library activities with the goals of sustainable development, fulfilling the function of ‘the third place’, and strengthening institutional (library) resilience and community resilience. In order to achieve the planned objectives, the case study method, desk research method and critical analysis method were used.
