The world of modern technologies is constantly evolving. Technology is increasingly influencing most aspects of life in the modern world. Due to the importance of technology, the demand for cheap technology ensuring the security of all transactions and the storage of sensitive data is constantly growing. Blockchain technology meets these expectations, among others. Due to the wide range of applications and resistance to hacker attacks that blockchain technology fulfills. The article will show the blockchain technology, its operation, and it’s role in the present world. The article aims to present the results of survey research that show the state of knowledge about blockchain technology, its purpose, and potential in the opinion of Polish people. The research was carried out from 2020 to 2021. The research methodology was based on the method of a diagnostic survey in which 163 Facebook users participated. The questionnaire contained 11 questions, consisting of closed questions (single and multiple choice) and open questions (with the possibility of giving one’s answer). The survey questions were divided into three groups: questions about the definition and knowledge of blockchain technology and the applications of the technology, and its economic potential. The research showed that the respondents mostly combined blockchain technologies with cryptocurrencies while not knowing the appropriate definition and purpose for the blockchain. Additionally, the questionnaire contained a data sheet, which was used to determine the demographic characteristics of the respondents (gender, age, education, place of residence, and professional status). Users indicated blockchain as a technology with potential that may be an essential function of the economy in the future.
