W dzisiejszych czasach obserwuje się wzrost zainteresowania kwestiami związanymi z dzieckiem, jego prawami i ochroną. Wśród wielu publikacji znajdują się również takie, które zajmują się tymi zagadnieniami z perspektywy wczesnego chrześcijaństwa. Celem artykułu jest odpowiedź na pytanie, jakie kwestie dotyczące dzieci czy dzieciństwa i w jakim stopniu były poruszane w dyskusjach na zgromadzeniach soborowych w pierwszym tysiącleciu oraz jaki był cel odwoływania się do kategorii dziecka w tych sporach teologicznych.
