A PERSONALISTIC APPROACH OF THE PATIENT-MEDICAL STAFF RELATIONSHIP. THE INFLUENCE OF THE PERSONALISTIC DIMENSION ON THE QUALITY OF INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS IN THE MEDICAL AREA AND ITS SIGNIFICANCE IN THE TREATMENT PROCESS

To begin with, the author defines the dialogue between the medical personel and the patient as a special form of relationship because of its natural character. In this article, the author analyzes the significance of the personalistic dimension of relationships in medical practice. He emphasizes that the quality of interpersonal relations depends on a specific vision of a human being. One must first “know” in order to “act”. The personalistic dimension allows to look at the sick person as at an integral and autonomous individual. Personalism helps to identify the spiritual dimension as constitutive in the medical personnel-patient relation. Moreover, the necessity of forming values and conscience, which helps to avoid routine in medical actions has been highlighted. Consequently, the author puts forward the thesis that the hospital personnel must, above all, do not disrespect their own dignity and show that it is manifested in actions, reflected in the relationship with the patient. The personal approach is therefore a “gift – versus-gift” relationship that benefits both sides. The medical personnel is a “gift” to the patient, and the patient also contributes to the meaning of service in the hospital. In conclusion, the author states that the personalistic approach leads to “humanization” of the relation with a sick person, on account of the global and integral vision of a human being always allowing to emphasize the inalienable dignity of every living person in medical actions.References
