Conservative critics of humanitarianism. Part One. Nietzsche and the curse of mercy

This article is the first part of the series devoted to the analysis of the criticism of humanitarianism in the tradition of German conservatism. Its main objective is to reconstruct the critical conception of Nietzsche, who tried to expose the Christian commandment „love your neighbour” as an effective tool of social control. According to the German philosopher both evangelical charity, and the secular idea of „the love of humanity” arise from the ressentiment and they are a kind of subtle revenge of „slaves” on the „aristocrats” which is the fulfillment of the intemperate ”will to power”. Nietzsche shows convincingly that compassion, love together with the affects related to them become inevitably warped, when only they are harnessed in the service of politics. As a result, deformed is also the sphere of politics imbued with emotions.
