Abstract

The text presents a Polish translation of the Preface to Robert Hooke’s Micrographia (1665), in which the author outlines a programme of experimental philosophy based on observation, experiment, and the mechanical enhancement of the senses. Hooke presents the development of scientific instruments, especially the microscope and telescope, as part of a broader project aimed at improving the human cognitive faculties – the senses, memory, and reason.
