The article depicts the American attitude towards the possibilities of using Polish coal in the process of European reconstruction after 1945. The US attempted to support the modernisation of the Polish coal industry in return for political freedoms in Poland. The announcement of the European Recovery Program and its application and integration processes in the West and Cold War impacted the American view on the potential of the Polish coal industry.
