Level of satisfaction and attitudes of mothers of newborns towards the necessity of screening procedures for their children

Abstract

Introduction. Based on the standard for the provision of health services in the perinatal care of pregnant women, during labor, delivery, postpartum and also the care of the newborn, every newborn must be covered by the applicable screening tests.

Aim. To analyze the opinions of mothers on the necessity of newborn screening and to analyze satisfaction with the procedures performed by the nursing staff of the Neonatology unit.

Material and methods. For the research problems, the method of diagnostic survey was used, using a survey questionnaire of our own design.

Results. The results show that parents of newborns agree with the necessity of screening. Most of the mothers whose babies were cared for by the nursing staff of the Neonatology Unit were satisfied with the quality of care provided. The mothers felt that their empathy and commitment to their child's health and well-being on the part of the nurse was greater, the higher their rating of the quality of care provided by the nurse.

Conclusions. The vast majority of mothers in the Neonatal Unit are satisfied with the quality of care provided by the nursing staff.
