The role and tasks of a nurse towards a pediatric patient with chronic pancreatitis – an individual case study – an individual case study

Abstract

Introduction. Chronic pancreatitis is a rare disease in children, but its incidence increases over the years. Chronic pancreatitis is a multifactorial, progressive process leading to long-term fibrosis of the pancreatic parenchyma, which results in a gradual and irreversible disruption of the endocrine and exocrine function of the pancreas.

Aim. The aim of this work is to indicate the role and tasks of a nurse, performed towards a pediatric patient with chronic pancreatitis.

Material and methods. The work uses: the individual case method and an analysis of literature on diagnostics and methods of treatment of children with chronic pancreatitis and nursing problems resulting from the disease. The subject of the work is the subject of care, i.e. a child hospitalized as a result of the diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis.

Conclusions. A pediatric patient struggling with chronic pancreatitis requires a holistic approach. During the care of the child, the nurse is required to constantly monitor the patient’s health, monitor the response to the treatment. Her task is to support, mobilize and teach the patient and their parents.
