Preventive and caring role of a nurse towards a child with urinary tract infection

Admission. Urinary tract infection is an inflammatory condition located in the urinary tract or kidneys. An infectious agent is responsible for causing the clinical symptoms. There are several types of this condition, namely - acute pyelonephritis, urosepsis, lower urinary tract infection, upper urinary tract infection, asymptomatic urinary tract infection, asymptomatic bacteriuria.
Objective. The goal of research is a process, that is expected by the researcher, taking actions that may help achieve the goal-solution of the problem.
Case presentation. Patient, age 2, admitted to the Children’s Observation Unit due to high body temperature – 39.4° C and excessive sleepiness. The girl presented with acute pyelonephritis. Features of dehydration were detected. The patient complains of a bloated, painful abdomen. The girl is anxious apathetic. During the interview insufficient knowledge of the parents about the disease was observed.
Conclusions. The nurse performs many actions in care in the patient with urinary tract infection. These activities are aimed at improving the child’s health condition and achieving the intended treatment result faster. Education of the patient and his/her caregivers will improve the quality of care provided to the child.
