Abstract

The author critically discusses the latest catalogue of the collections of the University Library in Toruń devoted to medieval manuscripts. The catalogue of medieval manuscripts of the University Library in Toruń was developed by the Toruń medievalist Marta Czyżak. The author of the article emphasizes the research significance of this publication, presenting the findings of historical and codicological examination carried out specifically for the purposes of the creation of the Catalogue. The high value of cognitive work is determined by the description of each manuscript in cooperation with specialists in related fields: the historian of art Monika Jakubek-Raczkowska and the researcher of the bookbinding and proprietor’s characters of Arkadiusz Wagner. The author of the discussion presents the cognitive values of the Catalogue, which she evaluates very highly providing information about the circumstances of its creation.

Author Biography

Julia Możdżeń, Nicolaus Copernicus University. University Library in Toruń

Julia Możdżeń, PhD, is a graduate of history and ethnology of the Faculty of History of the Nicolaus Copernicus University. She is interested in the history of culture, mentality and writing of the Prussian cities in the Middle Ages and early modern times. The most important publications include the source edition Gdańska kronika Bernta Stegmanna (1528), in cooperation with K. Stöbener and M. Sumowski (Toruń 2017) and monographs „Przedstawianie świata przez kronikarzy gdańskich na przełomie XV i XVI w.” (Toruń 2016) and Zjawiska demoniczne w późnośredniowiecznych Prusach. W świetle kroniki Szymona Grunaua (Toruń 2010). Currently, she is carrying out the National Science Centre research grant: “Normalization of social reality in medieval and early modern Toruń”. She is an employee of the Old Prints Section at the Special Collections Department of the University Library in Toruń.
