Poland and the Baltic states used to be parts of the communist system and now are members of NATO. Their geographical location, especially the fact that they all have a large neighbour, which has been constantly rebuilding its power and tends to become again a global empire – Russia, poses similar challenges in front of them. That is why it is worth analyzing their military expenditure policies in terms of their national security. To have a broader image of military expenditure trends it is also worth presenting military spending of these countries in the European and US context.
