Abstract

In 2020, we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Committee of the Regions - the representative body of the European Union's local and regional authorities. Its main goal was to represent the interests of local governments at the level of this international organization, to increase the democratic mandate of the European Union, as well as to increase the transparency of public debate between European institutions.

A quarter of a century is a good time to try to evaluate the actions taken by this body of the European Union. The purpose of this article is to conduct a legal analysis of the evolution of primary law of the European Union in the functioning of this body, to summarize the functioning of this body, as well as its impact on the legislative process of the European Union. The article will also present a proposal for the development direction of this body in the coming years.
