About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The Copernicus Journal of Political Studies is an English-language open-access scientific journal published since 2012. We publish the results of research predominantly on politics and security issues related to Central and Eastern Europe and the post-Soviet region. Considering its unique historical and geopolitical circumstances, this region is one of the most interesting areas in the world. Our objective is to present the results of interdisciplinary research as well as specialist studies and analyses regarding the broadly understood matters of international relations, international security, geopolitics and states’ internal policies. The CJPS is open to topics reflecting the most recent changes to the international system.

We are glad to publish theoretical articles, results of comparative research and case studies. The CJPS invites the authors to send their papers!

All the published texts are peer-reviewed and the publishing process is compliant with the standards of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

The CJPS is a scientific journal published by the Copernicus Foundation in cooperation with the Faculty of Political Sciences and International Relations of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Universidad Anahuac in Mexico City and Grigol Robakidze University in Tbilisi. Our development is assisted by grants of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

Peer Review Process

The CJPS publishes only reviewed texts. Our reviewing policy follows the strictly double-blind peer review process, where the author does not know the reviewer’s name and vice versa.

A review form can be found here. We particularly strive to find the best academically matched reviewers as well as to ensure that there is no conflict of interest between the author and the reviewer. We appreciate the involvement of our reviewers in the mutual assessment process.

The CJPS Editors oppose all and any displays of academic dishonesty. For this reason, all the sent texts are checked with CrossCheck, an anti-plagiarism system.

All the participants in the publishing process are bound by the ethical standards adopted by the CJPS. In case any academic dishonesty is discovered, the Editorial Board act in accordance with the procedure recommended by COPE. The algorithm of actions can be found here.

Open Access Policy

The journal offers access to its content in the Open Access system under the Creative Commons non-exclusive license (CC BY-ND 3.0). This means that all its contents are available free of charge to all users – including institutions. Users can download, copy, print, distribute, search through the full-text versions of papers published in HiP and share and publish links to them without the need to obtain consent of the publisher, editorial staff and authors.

Publishing process

1.What texts are published in the CJPS?

1.1. Journal’s objective and thematic scope

1.2. Types of publications

We predominantly publish research papers up to 10,000 words (including notes, reference list, abstract and keywords), analytical reports up to 6000 words and reviews up to 2000 words.

1.3. Publishing policy

The CJPS publishes previously unpublished texts. The journal is open access, on the terms of non-exclusive Creative Commons licence (CC BY-ND 3.0).

1.4. Editing standards

The CJPS has adopted the APA style. Detailed guidelines can be found in the Editing Standard tab.

2. Rules for publishing in the CJPS

2.1. Review policy

The CJPS publishes only reviewed texts. Our reviewing policy follows the strictly double-blind peer review process, where the author does not know the reviewer’s name and vice versa. Detailed rules can be found in the Review Policy tab.

2.2. Authorship

The authorship of the presented text must be confirmed by all co-authors. They have to give their consent to publish and accept the ethical standards adopted by the CJPS.

The CJPS Editors employ standards regarding authorship determination and counteract the practices of ghostwriting and guest authorship. A person who can be considered an author of the sent text is somebody who
- had a significant input in the concept of the work;
- had a significant input in obtaining and interpreting the data;
- prepared the article for publication;
- verified the text critically.

Other persons involved in the research process or cooperating with the authors in different areas should be mentioned in the Acknowledgements section.

2.3. Information on financing

Published research papers and analytical reports must contain a statement concerning the sources of research funds (Funding acknowledgements). Please include the name of the relevant institution as well as the project title and number.

2.4. Standards of Ethics

The CJPS has adopted the ethical standards conforming to the principles recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). During the entire publishing process, the Editorial Board, the Scientific Board and the Reviewers strive to uphold good publishing practices and oppose attempts to violate them. Detailed rules can be found in the Standards of Ethics tab.

2.5. Payments

The Publisher charges no fees in connection with publishing in the CJPS.

3. Use of DOI and ORCID identification

3.1. DOI

All texts published in the CJPS are assigned a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) number.

3.2. ORCID

The authors of the texts published in the CJPS (or at least the main author) should have their ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID). ORCID becomes a part of the metadata of the published texts, which substantially facilitates identification of the authors.

If you do not have an ORCID yet, click here to create it.

The ethical standards we adhere to follow the rules developed and promoted by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). They are obligatory at each stage of the publication process and are binding for all its participants: authors, editors, reviewers and members of the Scientific Board
