Gospel of Mark, hospitality, transfiguration of Jesus, disciples, Mark 9, 2–13Abstract
The question, why Peter proposed to make three tents when Jesus was transfigured and Elijah with Moses appeared to the disciples, has received various answers in the history of the interpretation of this text. Most commentators do not distinguish enough between the Markan narration of the event, concentrated on the formation of Jesus’ disciples, and its stories in the other Gospels. The theophany corrects Peter’s misunderstanding of his own role as disciple. The task of the disciples is not to address a material hospitality to the heavenly figures, but to receive the Son of God and to listen to Him.References
