Przedmiotem badań podjętych w artykule jest przesłanie (post)deuteronomistycznej redakcji przekazu o zbrodni w Gibea (Sdz 19,1–30), który otwiera epilog księgi poświęcony bezprecedensowej bratobójczej wojnie w Izraelu (19,1–21,25). W kontekście perypetii związku lewity z Góry Efraima i konkubiny z Betlejem, a nade wszystko na tle dokonanego na niej gwałtu, tradycja ta ilustruje pogłębiający się kryzys społeczno-religijny i moralny, jaki w epoce sędziów dotknął wszystkie hebrajskie pokolenia. Dramatyczny obraz ich społecznego i moralnego zepsucia, którego dowodem i symbolem jest haniebna przemoc na bezbronnej kobiecie dokonana przez zdeprawowanych moralnie Beniaminitów przy nagannej bierności jej towarzyszy (mąż, gospodarz i sługa), staje się w kontekście całej księgi głośnym apelem o gruntowną odnowę duchową w Izraelu. W oparciu o reguły historyczno-krytycznej lektury Sdz 19,1–30, na kolejnych stronach publikacji będą ukazane założenia rekonstrukcji i oceny najbardziej drastycznej sceny przemocy wobec kobiet zapisanej w Biblii, na którą jej redaktorzy sugerują patrzeć przez ideowy i teologiczny pryzmat całej księgi.
