Vistulian dredgers and their boats (19th–20th century)
One of the activities of the riverside population in the 19th and 20th centuries was the extraction of gravel and sand from the bottom of the river. To perform this work, various types of boats and simple tools (e.g. kaszczor) were used. A large centre of the Vistulian dredgers was a section of the river between Warsaw and Czerwińsk. The profession became extinct in the mid–20th century. Translated by Anna Maleszka
